Indian Metals' 2nd Unit of Odisha Plant Goes on Stream

Source: Time:2013-07-09 09:39:30 views:

Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys, a fully integrated producer of value-added ferro chrome, announced the commissioning of the second unit of its 2x60 Mw captive power plant at Choudwar, Odisha. The first unit was commissioned in January this year. Now, the company’s captive power generation capacity stands at 258 Mw. Set up at a cost of Rs 600 crore, the 120-Mw power plant will primarily cater to the company’s captive requirement for its ferro chrome production.

The company expects some surplus in the short-term, which it can sell to the grid or third parties.

The circulating fluidised bed combustion (CFBC) boilers are capable of using a wide range of coal including washery rejects, which help bring down the cost of generation.

“The power generation capacity has nearly doubled and we now have the headroom to expand our ferro alloys smelting capacity which is under active consideration,” said Subhrakant Panda, managing director of the company.
